about jhonniece.
When I was in elementary, I wanted to be a teacher. I loved to learn new things and share them with everyone around me. Then I wanted to be a writer, a movie producer, and an entrepreneur. So now, as a young adult equipped with advanced technology, I realize that I can do it all.
I am a communication and digital media professional who believes we should always put people first and strive for excellence in everything we do. Since my customer service career began in 2012, I have more than 9 years of professional customer and client-satisfaction-driven experience in an array of industries including retail, hospitality, and higher education. In my roles at Enterprise Holdings, Inc. and AT&T Mobility, I have delivered excellent customer service by building rapport, expressing empathy, and owning my ability to provide the right solution for my customers.
In 2015, I transitioned to higher education, and I realized my enthusiasm to help others pursue their goals and create a better path to professional success. As an enrollment coach, I assisted non-traditional students from inquiry to graduation, overcoming internal and external obstacles throughout the student life cycle. As a graduate assistant, I guided young adults through conflict and triumphs while producing energetic experiences and innovative events for the students, faculty, and staff. Within both roles, I developed influential relationships with my undergraduate team, managerial peers, and community leaders. These experiences have allowed me to encourage others to nurture that familiar love for life-long learning.
I left the workforce in 2019 to pursue my Master of Arts in Communication. While I had not quite identified my research interests, I hoped this would be an opportunity to develop my talents in photography and storytelling. During my studies, I realized my love for all things tech and shiny came at a cost. It was during the Media Ecology course that I learned about the potential tradeoffs of relationship quality and mental aptitude for efficiency in technology. As a society that relies heavily on technology to stay “in-the-know”, we sacrifice our ability to retain important information and maintain meaningful relationships. It is very difficult to convince anyone that our technology hinders us from truly connecting when everyone is connected around the clock. Therefore, I am currently writing and producing a short film to creatively express how our phone and internet addiction inadvertently affects our relationship quality with those around us. I will share more information about this project as it is produced.
As graduation approaches, I am seeking a professional communication and digital media coordinator role in which I can utilize my project management, photography, and videography skills. If you have questions or would like to discuss opportunities, feel free to email me at hi@jhonniecemeeks.com.
